A little bit of winter!

This week I am working on a winter mountaineering course for tollymore, with Tom, Paul, Lee and Ernie. Day one saw us heading up into Coire nan Lochan to look at moving on snow. We found quite a bit of snow that had managed to withstand the thaw in behind the shoulder of lochan, the easterly aspect also meant that we were out of the wind. The focus of the day was to look at moving about with and without crampons on, how to move effectively on snow to minimise the chances of a slip, and what to do if we do get to the point of a slip or a slide. On our travels we bumped into John Rutherford who was out and about, so he joined us for a while. It was a good start to the week, with the rain staying of all day, the forecast for the 1st part of the week is giving milder tempeartures but generally drier, so it will be an improvement on last week not to be arriving home soaked each day!!
