A windy weekend!

I’ve spent the last two days in the cairngorms working on an intro to winter mountaineering for Glenmore Lodge. I was out with Tom, Sam and Jonny, all of whom had previous winter experience. The aim of our two days was to introduce some basic rope work into their existing skill set to allow then to start pushing into winter “scrambling” terrain and easy gullies.

Once again the weather in the Cairngorms was determined not to play ball. We had two fairly windy days, making things rather challenging.

Thankfully we managed to come up with a few cunning plans to ensure we got the most from our time on the hill, spending the first day working along the eastern flank of Fiacaill ridge towards the twin ribs area, followed by a day in the Ciste hiding from the wind.

Despite the weather we crammed quite a bit into our few days and hopefully helped the guys to get a few steps closer to where they want to be in winter mountaineering.

I’m out with Ciaran and Ray over the next few days for some winter climbing, with the winds due to drop off hopefully it’ll be a little less wild!
