Mountain Skills Assessment

The purpose of the Mountain Skills Assessment is to ensure that the candidate has a good practical understanding of navigational techniques and other mountain skills (as outlined in the syllabus). The assessment is run over two days and will included both practical and written elements. Accommodation is not included in the course fee.

Prior to booking on to a Mountain Skills Assessment candidates must have met all assessment prerequisites:

  • Hold a valid first aid qualification. This must involve at least 16 hours of instruction and include an element of assessment.
  • Have logged a minimum of 14 walks since completing MS 1 & 2. At least four of these walks should be within two months of the Mountain Skills Assessment.
  • Candidates who have not complete MS 1 & 2 are required to log 28 days
