Mountain Skills 1

The Mountain skills 1 is the first course on the Mountain skills pathway and aims to develop a strong foundation of personal skills and knowledge. Topics covered on the Mountain skills 1 will include:

• map-reading and simple navigation techniques,
• recognition of natural features,
• distance measurement and timing of walks,
• mountain hazards
• personal equipment
• emergency equipment.

Before booking onto a training course participants must be registered with the mountain training board of Ireland on the mountain skills pathway.
