Mountain Leader Training Week

The Mountain Leader Award is for those who wish to lead others in the mountains, hills, and moorlands of Ireland and the UK, in summer conditions.

Before booking onto a training course participants must be registered.

To register candidates must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be a current member of one of the three Mountaineering Councils: Mountaineering Ireland, the British Mountaineering Council or Mountaineering Scotland.
• Have passed the Mountain Skills Assessment

Mountain leader training week

This 5 day course combines ML 1 & 2, covering all aspects of the award in a single course.

Main syllabus areas covered will include: Equipment, mountain weather, navigation, leadership and party management, mountain hazards and risk assessment, access and conservation, flora and fauna, steep ground management, planning, expedition and camp craft skills, night navigation, emergency rope work, river crossing, and emergency procedures.
