Today I started another week of winter mountaineering for Tollymore. As per usual day one started of with having a good look at moving about on snow. With low winds and good visibility forecast Trevor and myself decide to take both groups up the Fiacaill ridge, avoiding the crest, don’t want to over do it on day one! and head over to coire Domhain. I had been through last week and there was still a good bit of snow left up there, it also had the advantage of getting the group up onto the plateau and seeing some great views of the area. The snow was prefect for what we wanted to do, with the lower temperature meaning that it was pretty hard, great for looking at edging with boots and cutting steps. The hardness also lent itself very well to looking at the use of crampons. After spending a few hours moving about and doing lots of slipping and sliding we headed over to 1141, and back down the chais ridge. A great day out to start the week.
