Myself and John headed over to the cairngorms last night to hook up with swail and his camper van. The forecast was giving winds of up to 70mph, this didnt stop swail from parking the camper side on to the wind!! We would have been been rocked to sleep nicely had we not have been so gripped!! Eventually enough was enough and swail got out of bed to do some streamline parking, problem solved!
The plan had been to get up early and see what the wind was doing, if it had eased we were goin to head over the back and get on some of the longer routes. 6am came….and went, as did 7, and 8, it was going to be another short day. We eventually made a move and headed up to the rather windy mess of pottage, where we decided to get on Pot of Gold. Conditions were lean, a reasonable amount of snow on the crag, but not much ice about, although this made the cracks very useful for protection. We climbed the route in 3 main pitches with a final short 1 to get us to the top. It was a fantastic line, with a little bit of everything, a nice traverse, some steep bulges, a chimney and some nice grooves.
Another good day, first time ive been out climbing with swail in ages, so it was good to get out with him.
