Last night I headed out to the bothy on strangford lough with the Tuesday night paddlers. There were 10 of us in total, heading out to the bothy from various locations. Six, including myself, put on at the shore road, just outside killyleagh. From the get in, we paddled out and around gibbs island before making our way down to salt island and the bothy, arriving just after dark. With boats unpacked, mike was straight on BBQ duty, cooking up a load of most welcome burgers and hot dogs. The rest of the night was spent keeping the fire stoked, are glasses full, and listening to tales and tall stories, a great nights craic.
This morning, Eddie and myself were in the great position of not having to rush off, so as the others were getting an early start to head for work it was great to be able to roll over and get a bit more sleep. When we finally surfaced it was time to get the BBQ going for some bacon rolls. A very leisurely start, and certainly a pace i could get used to! After getting the place cleared up and sorted, we put on the water and paddled together for a bit before heading our separate ways. It was a great day to be out on the lough, the sun was beaming, and the water was an amazing colour. A fantastic way to end a great little trip, hopefully the first of many for this summer.
