The skills required to give assistance to an injured climbing partner are often over looked by many climbers. The one day self rescue for climbers course is for independent rock climbers and aims to look at the basics of self-rescue giving you options in the unfortunate event of an incident whilst climbing.
The nature of this courses lends its self to workshop style sessions, and though we will endeavour to put these techniques into practice on rock climbs during the course the main focus is to ensure that new techniques are grasped and understood by participants. The structure of the course will be fairly flexible to suit the varying levels of experience, however main topics to be covered may include:
- Review of building belays and belaying
- Review of abseiling with a safety back up
- Tying off a belay plate
- The use of assisted and unassisted hoists
- Escaping the system
- Using a Y-hang as a means of crag evacuation with an injured climber
- Prusiking up and down a rope
- Abseiling past a knot
Each day will start with a general introduction at an agreed meeting point, giving the instructor an opportunity to discuss individual aims and objectives for the day.
