This course is available as a 2 day or 5 day course and is for those who would like to be able to climb independently as the less experienced member in a rock climbing pair.
The primary focus of the learn to rock climb is to get participants closer to being a competent second, capable of following a lead climber on graded rock climbs.
The structure of the course will be fairly flexible to suit the varying levels of participants experience. Teaching will take place on routes, aiming to get as much climbing done as possible and main topics to be covered may include:
- Fitting a helmet and harness
- Tying in
- Introduction to climbing calls
- Movement on rock and basic technique
- Introduction to climbing gear
- Removal of gear whilst following a lead climber
- Basics of belay construction
Each day will start with a general introduction at an agreed meeting point, giving the instructor an opportunity to discuss individual aims and objectives for the day.
